Weidel closes AfD campaign in Saxony-Anhalt

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 05 SET - The AfD will celebrate the official closing of its election campaign in Saxony-Anhalt today in Magdeburg, with its co-leader Alice Weidel in attendance, supporting leading candidate Ulrich Siegmund. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m., according to the party's official website. Ahead of tomorrow's vote, the far-right has long been leading the CDU in the polls. More than three decades after Germany's 1990 reunification, Sunday's election in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt could highlight long-standing east-west divisions. The anti-immigrant and pro-Moscow Alternative for Germany (AfD) is expected to win big and even seek state power, a first for a far-right party in German postwar history. (ANSA).
