Migrant arrivals in Serbia have decreased by 49%

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 20 - Since the beginning of the year, Serbia has recorded the arrival of 9,567 irregular migrants, a 49% decrease compared to the same period last year. Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Natasa Stanisavljevic said on Thursday, remebering this is the lowest number of arrivals since the beginning of the migration crisis ten years ago. Currently, 235 migrants are housed in six reception centres in Serbia, out of a total capacity of approximately 3,000 guests. A significant decline in the flow of migrants along the Balkan route has also been recorded by Frontex, according to which 11,500 irregular migrants arrived in the region in the first 11 months of the year, down 43 percent from the same period last year.
