Court OKs Nord Stream sabotage suspect's extradition

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 16 - A Bologna court on Tuesday ruled that a Ukrainian man arrested in Italy on suspicion of involvement in the explosions in September 2022 that sabotaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines between Russia and Europe should be extradited to Germany. Serhii Kuznietsov, a former Ukrainian army captain held on a European arrest warrant while on holiday near Rimini last month, denies the charges. His defence lawyer, Nicola Canestrini, said he would appeal against the extradition to the supreme Court of Cassation. "Fundamental rights on due process, conditions of detention and functional immunity have been violated," Canestrini said. "These cannot be sacrificed in the name of automatic judicial cooperation".
