Ivanka, husband invest 1 bn in Albanian island: The Guardian

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 24 - "Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner have spent more than $1 billion on an Albanian island," Sazan, that will be a luxury resort once the unexploded ordnance is removed, according to an article by journalist Marzio Mian in The Guardian today. Sazan, already dubbed the "island of Trump" by Albanians, is on the verge of becoming a mecca for ultra-luxury tourism, adding to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's real-estate portfolio, according to the daily, despite opposition from environmental groups and experts concerned about the project. Despite its subtropical climate and strategic location at the entrance to the bay of Vlorë, Sazan, a closed island controlled by the military during the Communist regime, is still "full of unexploded ordnance," according to The Guardian. However, with the Trump and Kushner investment, the island will be transformed because "we need luxury tourism like a desert needs water," Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama told The Guardian. Negotiations with Affinity regarding the sale of Sazan were kept secret. Residents and parliamentarians were unaware of the $1.4 billion deal until it was reported in the newspapers. The project is led by Asher Abehsera, CEO and cofounder of Affinity Global Development with Kushner. Albania, which is becoming a more popular tourist destination by the year, isn't Kushner's only target; he's also interested in Serbia, where Affinity Partners intends to convert the former defence ministry building in Belgrade into a luxury hotel.
