Record number of citizenships granted in Germany

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 10 - The Federal Statistical Office reported today that 291,955 people obtained German citizenship in 2024, setting a new record since 2000. In comparison to 2023, 91,860 more people became citizens, representing a 46% increase. More than a quarter of the new citizens are Syrians, followed by people with Turkish passports (8%), and Iraqis (5%). The number of naturalisations of people with Russian passports has increased the most in percentage terms: in 2023, approximately 1,995 people were naturalised, and in 2024, there were 12,980. (ANSA).
