Slovenia, low early turnout in referendum on artist pensions

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 9 - On Thursday, the third and final day of early voting, 7,279 voters, or 0.43% of all eligible voters, voted in an opposition-sponsored referendum challenging pension bonuses for deserving artists, according to Slovenian news agency STA. The National Electoral Commission (DVK) reported an early voting turnout of 23,102, or 1.36%, on Friday. The early turnout was significantly lower than in the most recent referendums on euthanasia, cannabis, and preferential voting in June 2024. The referendum on pension bonuses for deserving artists will take place on Sunday, when approximately 1.69 million Slovenians will be able to vote at one of 2,978 polling stations, 88 omnia polls, and 29 stations located at Slovenia's consular and diplomatic missions around the world, STA informed.
