The formal decision of the European Council to grant candidate status to Serbia is warmly welcomed by the Central European Initiative (CEI) whose core mission is “regional cooperation for European integration”.
CEI Secretary General, Amb. Gerhard Pfanzelter recalled the success of last year’s CEI Serbian Presidency, which was particularly dynamic and effective in promoting regional and global initiatives. The June 2011 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Trieste welcomed the progress made by the CEI non-EU Member States towards a closer relationship with the European Union and expressed strong continued support to this process. The overall CEI contribution to projects and activities regarding Serbia has reached the amount of 4.2 million EUR.
