The CEI Summer School “Beyond Enlargement. The Wider Europe and the New Neighbourhood”, a feature event first held in 1995, is a two-week course with special focus on democracy, governance, economics and sustainable development.
Particular attention was given to the role of civil society in fostering democracy and sustainable development in the region. More than 50 graduate students from CEI countries, especially from the Western Balkans, took part. Students were selected among young practitioners and activists from civil society organisations in the region.
The Summer School was supported by the EU Programme “People 2 People”.
CEI Secretary General, Amb. Gerhard Pfanzelter, participated in the opening session of the CEI International Summer School on 7 September and spoke on Regional Cooperation in Central and South East Europe: the Role and the Potential of CEI. The Summer School is co-financed by the CEI, the European Commission, the University of Bologna and the Municipality of Cervia.
