Coronavirus: EU financial aid to Serbia, Montenegro

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MARCH 25 - Serbia will get 94 m euros from the EU to support the national health system engaged in the fight against coronavirus, said today the Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic. The Minister received a letter confirming this news from the European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi. Joksimovic, quoted by the media in Belgrade, said that pre-accession funds of the IPA program initially destined for development projects in Serbia would be diverted to support the fight against the pandemic. In recent days, the EU had granted 7.5 m euros to Serbia and 7.2 m to Bosnia and Herzegovina to deal with the coronavirus emergency. The head of the EU delegation in Podgorica Aivo Orav announced today that Brussels approved € 53 million for Montenegro, to support the health service and programs to help the economy hard-hit by the coronavirus outbreak.
