(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 23 OTT - The Greek parliament has approved legislation that will prohibit people under the age of 15 from using social media starting January 1, 2027. Following a heated debate, the measure was passed overnight, with sole support from the ruling conservative New Democracy (Nea Dimokratia) party, according to the ANA-MPA news agency. Dimitris Papastergiou, Greece's Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, described the measure as "an effective and necessary solution" to combat the issue of social media addiction among minors. The law includes provisions for age verification mechanisms, strict penalties for non-compliant platforms, and alignment with the proposed European regulation known as the "Kids Act." (ANSA).
