(ANSA) - GORIZIA, 30 GEN - Piazza Transalpina is undergoing renovations in preparation for Go! 2025, representing a symbol of borderless collaboration. With an investment of 4.2 million euros, funded by both Slovenia and Italy, this iconic location is poised to host a landmark event for Nova Gorica and Gorizia: the joint opening ceremony of Go! 2025. Just before the inauguration of the European Capital of Culture, the Gect Go announced the completion of the renovation works at Piazza Transalpina/Trg Evrope, situated on the border between the two countries. During the event, President Paolo Petiziol welcomed various officials, including Aleksander Jevšek, the Minister for Cohesion and Regional Development of Slovenia, Barbara Zilli, Councilor for Finance of Friuli Venezia Giulia, alongside the mayors of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, Samo Turel and Rodolfo Ziberna. Jevšek highlighted the project's significance, stating that it marks a historic moment in EU funding histor. It was the first initiative where both countries and cities collaborated using the Integrated Territorial Investment mechanism, a tool aimed at urban development under the European Cohesion Policy. He emphasized that Piazza Transalpina transcends being merely another square; it serves as a shared urban space that strengthens the ties between the two Gorizias and their respective nations, embodying the European spirit while standing as a key site for the European Capital of Borderless Culture. Zilli added that the square reflects the rich history and culture of the region, which is evident through its old station and the historical imprints left on its streets. Today, Piazza Transalpina has evolved into a place that fosters a new reality for Gorizia and Nova Gorica, communicating a universal language. From this significant location, a message of borderlessness and unity resonates, shared among people from diverse backgrounds eager to explore and appreciate this unique and captivating part of Europe.
