CEI Co-sponsors International School on Nuclear Security

The International School on Nuclear Security, held in Trieste from 11 to 22 April, organised by the ICTP and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and co-sponsored by the CEI and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, focused on nuclear security-measures to prevent nuclear proliferation or sabotage, as well as the protection of nuclear materials.

Bringing together IAEA expertise and the ICTP's international network of researchers in developing countries, the school aimed to provide participants with the necessary knowledge to meet obligations under the international nuclear security legal framework, to identify and remedy threats against nuclear security by using radiation detection strategies, and to respond to incidents involving nuclear and other radioactive material.

CEI Secretary General, Ambassador Gerhard Pfanzelter, highlighted that it represents a timely and important contribution to an international nuclear security culture, when countries need to be better prepared to face potential threats.
