(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 SET - Five migrants, whose nationalities are unknown, drowned in the Kupa River while attempting an irregular border crossing from Croatia into Slovenia. Croatian police confirmed that the incident occurred yesterday. Police were alerted to the presence of several people in the Kupa River, near the village of Damalj, close to Severin na Kupi. According to preliminary findings by Croatian law enforcement, the group consisted of approximately twenty people: 14 reportedly made it across the river and into Slovenia, five were rescued, and five drowned. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. (ANSA).
