(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 22 SET - 'Be Open' will be the guiding theme of the citywide cultural events calendar for Barcolana58, presented by Generali, inviting people to turn places into spaces for encounters and to look at the sea through different forms of expression, from art and science to music, literature, and film. The program, running from October 2 to 11, was presented today in Trieste. "Be Open reflects Barcolana's ability to welcome new ideas and energies," said Mitja Gialuz, president of the Barcola and Grignano Yacht Club. "We asked the local community to get involved - he added -, and the response was extraordinary: associations, cultural organizations, businesses, artists, researchers and residents brought a wide range of projects into Barcolana, working with us to build the program." More than 110 proposals were submitted for the 'Candida il tuo evento' call for projects, supported by the City of Trieste and Fondazione CRTrieste, with 91 selected. Magazzino 26, the Civic Maritime Museum, Sala Fini and other venues will host exhibitions and installations. Events focusing on nature, research and science communication will take audiences from the sea to the Karst plateau. At the same time, film, photography and visual arts will be combined with initiatives dedicated to inclusion and the involvement of the Greek, Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian communities. Music will also feature prominently, with concerts on the stage in Piazza Cavana and on a floating stage on the Ponterosso Canal, along with workshops and activities for children and families. Among the events marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Friuli earthquake will be the exhibition 'The First Time I Saw the Sea. 1976-2026. Remembering the Friuli Earthquake', as well as the opening of a new exhibition section at the Diego de Henriquez Museum of War for Peace dedicated to the Trieste bathyscaphe. The eighth edition of the 'Un mare di racconti' literary festival will also begin on Oct. 5. Around 20 guests are expected at Trieste's Casa della Musica, including Andrea Vitali, Claudia Durastanti, Clara Sánchez, Ben Pastor, Viola Ardone and Emanuele Trevi. Over six days, readers will be invited to embark on a literary journey between land and sea. Meanwhile, work has begun along Trieste's waterfront to set up the Barcolana Village, the expo that traditionally accompanies the regatta. More than 200 temporary structures will be installed across an exhibition area covering 25,000 square meters. (ANSA).
