The Project Fighting Energy Poverty in Central Europe - Fight4CE is co-financed by the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme 2021–2027 under the priority "Cooperating for a greener Central Europe". It addresses the challenges posed by energy poverty in achieving a just energy transition across Central Europe, focusing on border-related disparities and their impact on functional links among territories. Building on the outputs of two Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE and three cross-border cooperation projects, Fight4CE consolidates a common Central European definition of energy poverty, indicators to measure it, and practical tools to help local authorities prevent and tackle it.
The Central European Initiative – Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES) acts as the project's Communication Manager, designing the communication strategy, coordinating partners' local outreach and leading institutional communication at the transnational level.
The CEI-ES also leads the work package on upstream capitalisation, coordinating the development of local action plans and the Fight4CE Strategy for long-term mainstreaming, and is responsible for organising the final project conference in Zagreb.
Fight4CE will deliver a transnational toolkit — piloted in five territories and structured in four modules to assess energy poverty, select and deploy appropriate measures, and engage citizens in decision-making — and establish a permanent CE Energy Poverty Task Force, a transnational expert advisory body supporting local authorities in its application. Local authorities will benefit from strengthened capacities to fight energy poverty, while citizens will be empowered through more just policies and measures.
