CEI Business Forum in Budapest

Organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Central European Initiative, the CEI Business Forum, on 23 September in Budapest, witnessed the participation of over 70 high-level business executives and entrepreneurs and representatives of employer organisations from the 18 CEI Member States.

The President of the Hungarian Federation of Industries, Péter Futó, emphasised the role the CEI Business Community could play  - in cooperation with the political decision-makers at all levels  - in the adoption of necessary and urgent measures in order  to revive the economy in the CEI region.

Speaking on behalf of CEI Secretary General, Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, Mr. Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, Special Advisor to the CEI SG, emphasised the commitment of the Hungarian Presidency to revisit the CEI Business Dimension for an economic development of the region. He mentioned a possible two-pillar approach of the Business Dimension, to be approved by the CEI Foreign Ministers in Budapest at the end of October:  a Forum for the small and medium-sized enterprises, with institutionalised support provided by a Chambers of Commerce Network; and a Forum for the Large Industry supported by their national Federations of industrialists (where they exist).

Discussions focused on three main topics related to future developments in the CEI region, i.e. in Transport Policy, in Environmental Policy and in Creative Industries.

During a working lunch, CEI Business Community representatives had the chance to meet the CEI Ministers of Economy and their representatives attending another CEI High-level Meeting in Budapest. This represents an example of a fruitful exchange between the Political/Institutional dimension and a revisited Business Dimension.
