(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 30 OTT - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has urged China's leadership to reduce its significant trade deficit with Germany. "We want to maintain close trade and economic relations that provide long-term benefits for both sides," Steinmeier said during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The head of state explained that Germany and China have highly dynamic economic ties. "Given such dynamism, it is only natural that we should constantly reassess the framework conditions. I am confident that through dialogue, we will be able to reach satisfactory conclusions. Steinmeier noted in his opening remarks at the meeting with Xi that China's economic power, technological capabilities, and political influence have all increased dramatically. "I have a lot of respect for everything. At the same time, we are both responsible for maintaining international order and defining the conditions under which the world's states conduct and shape their relationships." (ANSA).
