(ANSA-AFP) - BUCAREST, JUL 25 - Romania shot down a drone in its airspace for the second consecutive day. The forces of the NATO member country bordering Ukraine shot down a drone that "had illegally entered Romanian airspace" at 8:34 a.m. local time (7:36 a.m. Italian time), according to Defense Minister Radu Miruta. The drone was shot down 9.6 kilometers west of Sfantu Gheorghe, in the Danube Delta, near the border with Ukraine, he added. "It was detected by the Ministry of National Defense's radar as it entered our airspace at 8:22 a.m. and was shot down a few minutes later by a Romanian F-16 fighter jet," he wrote on Facebook. Yesterday, a drone was shot down about 114 kilometers from Bucharest. Romania has experienced frequent drone incursions since 2022. In May, a drone crashed into an apartment building, injuring two people and drawing condemnation from NATO and the European Union, which blamed Russia and warned against further incursions.
