Hungary poll turnout hits noon record 54 percent

(ANSA-AFP) - BUDAPEST, 12 APR - Turnout in Hungary's closely watched parliamentary polls on Sunday hit a record 54 percent at midday, election authorities said, as voters flocked to participate in a ballot that could end nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban's 16-year rule. The noon turnout was considerably higher than the 40 percent seen in the 2022 election, and AFP journalists saw queues of people waiting to vote at numerous polling stations. (ANSA-AFP).
