Bulgaria: higher taxes on older cars from 2019

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 08 NOV - Bulgaria will introduce from next year a new formula for calculating taxes on vehicles with a maximum mass of up to 3.5 tonnes. The measure, Radio Bulgaria informed, is aimed at connecting the taxes to the level of pollution of the cars, by envisaging "the introduction of two components - one related to the engine power of the vehicle and the year of production, and ecological, which concerns the category of the vehicle." According to Radio Bulgaria, the tax increase cannot be precisely calculated, as the amount will be determined by the relevant municipal councils. However, it will not be more than 30%. The measures should enter into force in January 2019.
