Held in Rome on 30 April 2026, the conference “Regional cooperation and the role of the Central European Initiative in EU enlargement: the Republic of Moldova’s path towards accession” organised by the Embassy of Romania and the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to the Italian Republic, in cooperation with the Istituto Luigi Sturzo, brought together high-level institutional representatives, diplomats, policymakers and experts.

The ADRIASPILL Conference 2026, held in Zadar (Croatia) on 21-23 April, brought together experts, institutions, and practitioners to address the prevention and response to marine pollution in the Adriatic Sea.

The final event of the CEI‑supported project TRUE BLUE – CEI support to Training and Research to Unlock and Enhance the potential of sustainable BLUE Economy for regional cooperation and EU integration took place in Trieste, Italy on 23 April 2026, marking the successful conclusion of an initiative implemented under the CEI Know‑how Exchange Programme (KEP), with funding from Italy through the CEI Fund at the EBRD.

Support to Moldova’s European path and the strengthening of regional cooperation were at the centre of the meeting between Secretary General, Franco Dal Mas, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, in Chișinău on 27 April 2026.

On 21 April 2026 – The CEI hosted at its Trieste headquarters the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Alpine – Western Balkans and Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean Rail Freight Corridors.

In its capacity as co-chair of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance, the CEI contributed to organising the workshop “Exploring the Nexus between Big Science and Science Diplomacy: An Open Debate on Existing Initiatives, Key Actors and Potential Synergies”, held in Prague on 9 April 2026.

A new Know‑how Exchange Programme (KEP) project has recently been launched to support the Republic of Moldova in aligning its regional development system with EU cohesion policy standards. The initiative is implemented by the North Regional Development Agency (North RDA) of Moldova in partnership with Romania’s North‑East RDA and West RDA.

Applications are now open for the 15th edition of the Young Bled Strategic Forum (Young BSF), a CEI Flagship Event, which brings together emerging leaders in international politics from around the world.

The International Conference Equal Pay Day, held in Prague on 26-27 March under the theme “Future”, brought together around 1,800 participants from 18 countries.

The Final Conference of the CEI-led project SUSTANCE  – Sustainable public transport solutions and innovative governance schemes for improving connectivity in Central Europe, funded under the Interreg Central Europe Programme 2021–2027, took place in Trieste on 24 March 2026.

From 23 to 26 March 2026, the CEI Secretariat attended the meetings of the Council of Europe Youth statutory bodies held in Budapest, notably the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) and the Joint Council on Youth (CMJ).

On 24 March 2026, CEI’s Secretary General Franco Dal Mas has been awarded the “Filo di Seta” Prize by the Fondazione Cinzia Vitale during the Gran Galà di Primavera held in Trieste.

Secretary General Franco Dal Mas strongly condemns the recent drone attack on the historic centre of Lviv, Ukraine, which resulted in damage to civilian buildings, 32 injured persons, and affected areas inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He expressed his sincere solidarity with those injured and their families, wishing a swift recovery to all those affected.

A workshop held in Chișinău at the end of February 2026 marked an important step forward for the Media Advocacy Action for Moldova project, funded within the Know-how Exchange Programme financed by Italy.

The CEI-supported project CEI support for Bridging Borders: Strengthening Regional Capacity for Moldova’s EU Integration through Know-How Exchange (BRIDGE2EU) has started as one of the 15 initiatives recently financed under the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP), through the contribution of Italy to the CEI Fund at the EBRD.
