The final meeting of the Committee of National Coordinators concluding the Moldovan CEI Presidency was held at the CEI Headquarters in Trieste on 15 December. The gathering focused on taking stock of the activities and events held over the year of the outgoing Presidency and set the stage for the upcoming Albanian term.  A number of results have been obtained throughout 2023, in particular concerning the common efforts made in further supporting the European integration process, in supporting Ukraine, and in promoting sustainable development. Moreover, important decisions have also been made this year such as on the new CEI Plan of Action and the strengthening of the CEI.

The Albanian representative Kastriot Robo, Director of Regional Directorate and Neighboring Countries at the MFA of Albania, informed that his country would continue along this path in the forthcoming year, expressing Albania’s commitment to the CEI and its mission as paramount in the promotion of the EU integration process, including EU values and standards, as well as sustainable development, also in the framework of the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.  The upcoming Albanian CEI Presidency will be determined to boost the role of the CEI as a regional player, promoting political dialogue to safeguard peace, stability, security, and economic progress for its Member States, and concrete actions.

Selected CEI project activities in core areas such as transport, science, and environmental protection were illustrated, demonstrating the importance of combining political dialogue and tangible actions on the ground.

The meeting concluded with the formal transfer of next year's chairmanship to the Republic of Albania, effective as of 1 January 2024.
