Stakeholders’ Conference towards Adriatic-Ionian Macro-region: “Connecting Macro-regions and Strengthening Regional Cooperation on the Eve of the New Cohesion Policy of the European Union”

Organised by the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Central European Initiative, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference on 11 October 2013 in Trieste, aimed at promoting a high-level exchange of views on the synergies and coordination between the EU macro-regional strategies. Special focus was put on the existing EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the evolving one for the Adriatic-Ionian basin.

The gathering gave participants the chance to exchange views on opportunities and initiatives - within institutions and the business community - for improving competitiveness in the Danube and Adriatic Regions. In particular, special attention was paid to pinpointing ways of jointly coordinating national and regional policies between the Danube and the Adriatic-Ionian macro-regional strategies and to exploiting the lessons learned from the already established EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

The event witnessed the participation of and contributions from high-level representatives of the Italian Government, Members of the Italian Parliament, Presidents of Regions, Ambassadors of the CEI Member States to Italy and other related authorities from CEI Member States, representatives of the European Commission, CEI National Coordinators as well as top-level representatives of the Italian business community.
