Trieste Film Festival 2024: support to young film professionals

The CEI-supported Trieste Film Festival -the leading Italian festival dedicated to Central and Eastern European cinema and beyond - took place in Trieste on 19 - 27 January 2024. The programme included a great number of international and national premieres of feature films, short films, and documentaries as well as special sections such as the “Wild Roses” highlighting European female filmmakers. Various activities - exhibitions, concerts, readings, book presentations, meetings, thematic panels, masterclasses -  also took place during the Festival.

The CEI gave special support also to the TSFF ACADEMY, a film literary project representing a unique training opportunity for film students from universities and film academies in the CEI Member States. They had the opportunity to attend the Trieste Film Festival and follow a tailor-made programme of screenings, masterclasses, panels and special events. The project highly contributes to promoting the mobility of emerging European film professionals and young talents in view of creating new job opportunities, but also enhancing international cooperation and cultural exchanges.

During the Festival, the CEI Award 2024 was presented to the young Hungarian filmmaker, born in Romania, Katalin Moldovai for the film Without Air, a thoughtful and captivating picture that “exemplifies that no social environment is immune to hatred and obscurantism”, as stated by the jury. The film was also presented at the latest Toronto and Warsaw Film Festivals, where it won the Best Film category in the Competition for First and Second Feature Films.

CEI Senior Executive Officer Barbara Fabro presented the CEI Award on the occasion of the ceremony held in Trieste on 25 January highlighting the “long-standing cooperation with the Trieste Film Festival which promotes young talents from the CEI region and provides opportunities for valuable training and networking activities”.
