Free Port of Art - First CEI Trieste Exhibition of Contemporary Visual Art (3 July - 27 November 2011)

As of the end of August – less than two months from its opening – the Trieste Biennale which includes the CEI exhibition “Free Port of Art” has registered an extraordinary number of visitors, more than 12000. The majority is from Trieste and the surrounding area. For these visitors this is also a special occasion to visit the Old Harbour (Porto Vecchio) of Trieste, an exceptional location classified as a national monument opened to the public for the first time. The presence of visitors from outside Trieste and especially from abroad is a success beyond any expectations, especially for the CEI section which offers an outstanding up-to-date information on the state-of-contemporary-art in the CEI area.

Among the pieces of art, the paintings of Edi Hila, the father of the young generation of Albanian talents nowadays on the international scene, deserve mentioning as well as the intimate notes on metal of the Montenegrin artist Jelena Tomasevic, living between Podgorica and Berlin.
The photography section counts on the extraordinary reporting that Iljia Soskic made in 1975, nine hours after the murder of his friend Pier Paolo Pasolini at the Idroscalo swamp as well as the disturbing images of children inhaling glue launched by the Ukrainian Sergey Bratkov as the enfant terrible of contemporary photography. Among the videos, those of Dalibor Martinis, leading artist in the Croatian scenery, and Carloni&Franceschetti, better known as the directors of the video version of the play Tragedia Endogonidia by Raffaello Sanzio Socìetas. but also excellent reporters from Bosnia and Herzegovina and its border countries. Moreover, HR-Stamenov’s video, where a train is swallowed up by a strange light on Bulgarian railway tracks also deserves attention… Much more is available at Magazzino 26.   Invited artists:
