Germany: after 2 months, schools reopen in 10 Laender

(ANSA) - BERLIN, 22 FEB - After more than two months of closure due to the lockdown, schools and kindergartens in ten Laender in Germany reopen today, including Berlin. A much-discussed measure in recent weeks, and in particular at the State-Regions summit. On that occasion, Angela Merkel had a more rigid stance in this regard. The Chancellor would have liked to postpone the resumption of face-to-face lessons further, binding it to the data on the weekly incidence of Covid infections: the new threshold for other openings (of shops and clubs, for now still closed) has dropped from 50 to 35 new cases on 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. However, the school management has returned to the hands of the regional administrations, which have decided to reopen quickly in many cases. Schools follow special regimes in Berlin, with classes staggered and divided into groups and the obligation of wearing a face mask. The government is also evaluating the possibility of prioritizing teachers for vaccinations. Germany remains in lockdown until March 7, except for hairdressers that will reopen on March 1. (ANSA).
