Borrell stresses commitment as EU mediator for Serbia-Kosovo

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JAN 15 - EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, will travel to Belgrade and Pristina in the coming weeks to reiterate "personal determination and commitment" to carry out his role as EU mediator in dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, helping the two countries to resume negotiations and unlock the stalemate they have been in for over a year, EU External Action Service stated following the phone talks that the new head of European diplomacy had today with the Serbian and Kosovar presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci. In his bilateral discussions, Borrell expressed the "support of the Member States" for the resumption of the dialogue and underlined the importance for the two countries to move forward on their path towards the Union in view of the EU-Western Balkans summit in Zagreb in May 2020. Speaking with Thaci, the High Representative called on Kosovar political leaders to "proceed rapidly in the formation of a new government", still vacant since the early vote of last October 6. (ANSA).
