Slovenia-Croatia border area: EU Court non-competent

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, DECEMBER 11 - The European Court of Justice ruled it is not competent to intervene in the dispute between Slovenia and Croatia on the border between the two countries: that is what the Advocate General of the same Court said, given the forthcoming sentence on the appeal presented by Ljubljana against Zagreb. In his conclusions, Advocate General Priit Pikamäe suggests that the Court of Justice declares itself 'not competent' to examine the appeal filed by Slovenia, underlining inter alia that international conventions that do not fall under certain cases - and this case seems to be ruled out - do not constitute Union acts and, therefore, do not bind the EU. Based on the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice, the Advocate General thinks that the delimitation of the national territory does not fall within the competence of the Union and, therefore, of the Court of Justice itself.
