Science: in Lithuania more women scientists, engineers

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 11 FEB - Lithuania is the country in the European Union with the highest share of women among scientists and engineers. Official data made public by Eurostat today show that in five EU Member States the majority of scientists and engineers were women back in 2017. Among them, Lithuania (57% female), Bulgaria and Latvia (both 53%), followed by Portugal (51%) and Denmark (just over 50%). Above the EU average (41% in 2017), also Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania. In contrast, less than one third of scientists and engineers were women in Hungary and Luxembourg (both 25%), the lowest share in the European Union, Finland (29%) and Germany (33%), Eurostat added. In 2017, the EU statistical office said, of almost 18 million scientists and engineers in the EU 41% women, with men particularly overrepresented in high and medium-high technology manufacturing (83%).
