(ANSA) - ROMA, NOV 12 - Romania aims to take control of the local subsidiary of Russia's Lukoil to protect its domestic energy system and comply with U.S. sanctions, Romanian Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan was quoted by local media as saying. Lukoil operates 320 gas stations in Romania and operates the Petrotel refinery, which supplies about a quarter of the domestic fuel market, and holds exploration rights in a section of the Black Sea. The company was recently hit by U.S. sanctions related to the war in Ukraine, which will go into effect on Nov. 21. Ivan said Romania will not ask for an extension of the expiration of the sanctions, but rather will support their "full implementation at the level of the entire EU." The Romanian Energy Ministry is drafting legislation to maintain the stability of fuel supply in compliance with the sanctions, Ivan explained. (ANSA).
