Protest in Serbia against demolition of General Staff site

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 11 - In Belgrade, the student protest movement, along with citizen groups supporting them, organised a demonstration today to protest the government's plan to demolish the rubble of the old Yugoslav General Staff building in the capital, which was destroyed by NATO bombing in the spring of 1999, and replace it with a luxury hotel and residence complex owned by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump. The protesters, led by a large banner reading "We will not surrender the General Staff," formed a human chain around the ruined building on Kneza Milosa, a major thoroughfare in the heart of the capital, just metres from the government headquarters and the foreign and defence ministries.
