Pension reform necessary: German Economy Minister

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 10 - "To protect freedom and our democracy," "a reorganisation and modernisation of the state and economy is required, in a completely changed context both globally and within Germany," German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche stated in a lengthy speech at the symposium on the Social Market Economy. The minister began by drawing parallels between the emergence of this approach after WWII, when it was necessary to "rebuild the country and democracy," and the current situation. The minister emphasised the importance of reforming the welfare state, a topic she has brought up several times in recent months, as well as encouraging the governing coalition to be more courageous in promoting reforms.
