Serbian 'sljivovica' gets Unesco heritage status

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 1 - The traditional Serbian plum spirit'sljivovica' has been added to the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations heritage agency UNESCO. The spirit is made "across Serbia's territory and is recognized as a community's local identity trait," according to the application for the list. Sljivovica is also made in the region, most notably in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Central Europe. UNESCO also included Slovenia's beekeeping culture, which is practiced both in the countryside and in the cities, on the list. (ANSA).
