Youth forum on refugees and migrants in new media held in Skopje

The Youth Forum on Refugees and Migrants in the New Media in South-East Europe and Central Europe, organised by the Association for Education Mladiinfo International, offered the opportunity to examine the process in which migrants and/or refugees are transformed from object to subject in media representation in South Eastern European and Central European countries.

The event also aimed at boosting media quality for impartial reporting and analyses, in particular promoting new media to be more citizen-friendly, interactive and accessible. More than 60 young researchers, journalists and activists from around 15 countries shared their views on these topics and presented their work experiences and personal stories.

The Forum was a follow-up of the previous Youth Forum: Representation of Minorities in the New Media in CEE, in Skopje on 30 March - 1 April. Based on the outcome of this prior event, the focus shifted from a general perspective on minorities to the specifically vulnerable group of refugees and migrants as the most represented minority group in the media in SEE and CE countries.

The Youth Forum was co-financed by the CEI Cooperation Fund.
