KEP ITALY: final conference of SMA.RI.GO. project held in Chisinau

On 20 February, H.E. Valeria Biagiotti, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova, opened the final conference of the project "SMART RIVER GOVERNANCE: EXPERIENCES IN THE MIRROR FROM ITALY TO MOLDOVA" (SMA.RI.GO.) co-financed by the CEI Know-how Exchange Programme through the CEI Fund at the EBRD and sponsored by Italy with about 40,000 EUR.

The event - held at the Apele Moldovei Headquarters (Moldova National Water Authority) - witnessed the participation of the Moldovan Deputy Minister of the Environment, the General Director of Apele Moldovei (National Water Authority), the Director of DBGA (National River Basin Authority) and the CEI representative in Moldova. Representatives of public and private stakeholders including a Moldavan NGO (Caroma North), a Romanian NGO (Blue Flower) and the Intercommunity Development Association '' Metropolitan Area of Botosani " were also present.

The project aimed at exchanging good operational practices, between Italy and Moldova, on water management, flooding and landslide risks, subsidiary operation and maintenance and ways of involving public and private stakeholders through river contracts. The project - which also benefited from the cooperation of the Italian National Table of River Contracts – the EIP Water, AG422 Smart River Network Coordinator - was elaborated with the Alta Scuola (project leader and main know-how provider), BETA Studio (other know-how provider) and DBGA Moldova (know-how beneficiary). As a project outcome, stakeholders signed two "declarations of intent" for a River Contract on the Botna River and the Prut River (cross-border river between Moldova and Romania).
