KEP AUSTRIA: kick off meetings of project on life cycle assessment for renewable energy sources in Serbia

On 24-26 February 2016, representatives from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences – BOKU, Austrian know-how provider and the Serbian recipient institution, the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad, met in Opatija for the kick-off meetings of the KEP AUSTRIA project on  “LCA – GHG emissions of RES production and utilization in Serbia – RESEnviro”, on the occasion of the 44th international symposium “Actual Tasks on Agricultural Engineering”.

RESEnviro aims at providing the knowledge transfer and tools for conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, which are necessary for production evaluation and utilisation of renewable energy sources in terms of environmental impacts for the determination of sustainability of biogas utilisation in Serbia.

Participants discussed the timeline, objectives, challenges and realisation of the envisaged project tasks. Team leaders, Professor Andreas Gronauer and Professor Milan Martinov emphasised the importance of broadening research capacities of the Faculty of Technical Sciences. Special attention was paid to the possibility of developing the “BOKU LCA Platform” further by involving the partner from Serbia.

The 10-month project is co-financed through a KEP grant amounting to 20,000 EUR.
