CEI Fund at the EBRD: 5 technical cooperation and 8 know-how exchange projects approved. Overall support of nearly 900.000 EUR

Five Technical Cooperation (TC) projects and eight Know-How Exchange (KEP) projects have been approved for financing by the CEI Fund at the EBRD, entirely contributed by Italy. The overall commitment amounts to 630.000 EUR for the TC projects and 260.000 EUR for the selected KEP projects.

TC operations -  in the form of grant-type assistance - provide funding to improve the preparation and implementation of the EBRD’s investment projects and advisory services to private and public sector clients (support for feasibility and pre-feasibility studies, sector and environmental engineering, management training, capacity building and pre-loan audits). The approved TC projects target all non-EU CEI Member States in priority sectors such as transport, energy and SME development.

Amongst the approved TC activities: “Montenegro: Tivat Airport Modernisation Project. Procurement Support”, linked to a 30 million EUR EBRD investment and “Establishing of Origination and Execution Capacity Program for SME Direct Finance in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus”, linked to a 100 million EUR potential investment. Other assignments include the regional “Analysis of Climate Risks in Transport Infrastructures in the Western Balkans” and two projects in Serbia in the sector of innovation and resource efficiency (energy, water and material efficiency).

As for the Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP), an instrument supporting projects and programmes focused on the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU CEI Member States, the eight projects target beneficiaries in all non-EU CEI countries and are aimed at supporting the alignment with European and international standards. Italian organisations and companies remain at the top of the list in terms of know-how providers with four assignments. Other projects include expertise transfer from Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Italy, through the CEI Fund at the EBRD, has so far committed more than 2.2 million EUR for 81 CEI KEP projects.
*** Established in 1992 by the Italian Government, the CEI Fund at the EBRD aims at assisting the Bank’s countries of operation in Central and Eastern Europe in their economic and social transformation process. Since its inception, Italy has contributed 39.5 million EUR to the Fund, the majority of which has been allocated for TC projects to which the Fund has committed around 24 million EUR.
