Vilenica Pre-Opening Event with authors Mirko Božić and Kateryna Kalytko, Trieste (Italy)
Two promising young authors of Bosnian and Ukrainian contemporary literature, Mirko Božić and Kateryna Kalytko, will be the guests of the pre-opening event of the International Literary Festival Vilenica, in Trieste, at CEI HQ on 1 September 2015 at 7 pm.
Through readings and conversations, the two writers will present their work and life experiences, also in relation to the complex political, social and economic situation of their own countries. The event also aims at stressing the importance of such initiatives, which contribute to promoting cultural dialogue, exchange of experiences and the circulation of literary works.
Mirko Božić, born in 1982 in Mostar, is a poet, short story writer, essayist and creator of the United Literary Front, a network for young authors from the Balkans. He has published three collections of poems, and many of them have been translated into various languages. He received the Antun Branko Šimić Prize” for the best young poet in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2000), the Opomena Magazine Short Story Award (2003) and the CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence (2014).
Kateryna Kalytko, born in 1982 in Vinnytsia, is a poet and translator. She has published six collections of poems which have been published in several foreign magazines and anthologies. Her latest collection, Kativnya. Vynohradnyk. Dim (Torture chamber. Vineyard. Home), was chosen as the Ukrainian poetry book of the year 2014. In 2014, she also received the METAPHORA award for her translations of works by Miljenko Jergović.
The event, organised by the Slovene Writers’ Association in cooperation with the CEI and Group 85 - Skupina 85, is part of the International Literary Festival Vilenica. It is scheduled to take place on 1-6 September in various locations in Slovenia, which includes several meetings, poetry readings, panel discussions and debates with authors and writers from Europe and other countries worldwide. On 2 September, during the Festival’s official opening, the CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence will also be presented to the winner 2015.
The Trieste pre-opening event will be moderated by Patrizia Vascotto (in English with translation into Slovenian/Italian).
