After a two-day meeting in Trieste on 8-9 February, the European project SUMPORT has officially kick started with its partners establishing the grounds for a fruitful cooperation. The project, led by the CEI Executive Secretariat, brings together ten partners from all over the Mediterranean area.

On 8-9 November, the CEI participated in the first conference on mobility in the Alps, organised by the EUSALP (EU Strategy for the Alpine Region) Action Group 4 (AG4) on Transport and Mobility in Innsbruck, Austria.
The meeting was open to the general public and provided a platform for direct exchange with politicians and stakeholders in the EUSALP framework. It was the first of a series of annual events on the theme of mobility in the Alps, organised by the EUSALP AG4 leader, the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino.

Over the last years, the CEI has promoted several actions in support of sustainable energy and the development of bioeconomy within its area. It is actively involved in three FP7 projects, “S2BIOM”, “EBTP-SABS” and “Danube-INCO.NET”, with strong complementary objectives in the above-mentioned fields.

The consortium of the Danube-INCO.NET project gathered in Budapest on 10-11 December for an overall assessment of the work progress, the main results achieved during its first two–year implementation phase and the future challenges.

The Danube:Future White Paper was prepared in a bottom-up process involving around 50 researchers in the humanities and natural and social sciences, during the First Danube:Future Workshop in Klagenfurt, on 8-10 April. It deals with research and capacity building needs as well as with challenges and opportunities for the development of a sustainability-oriented knowledge society of the Danube River Basin.

In the context of the Advanced Training Programme for Young Officials from CEI Member Countries on the Management of EU (co) Funded Projects, the CEI is offering up to four fellowships of 1.500,00 EUR per month for a duration of six months.

CEI Secretary General Amb. Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri took part in the XVII Meeting of the Adriatic and Ionian Council, held in Brussels on 13 May 2014. Under the auspices of the Chairmanship-in-Office of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII), represented by H.E. Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, delegations from all AII Member States, the European Commission (DG for Enlargement, DG for Regional and Urban Policy, DG for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) and four Regional Organisations (CEI, CBSS, BSEC, RCC) attended the gathering.

On 7 May 2014, a CEI delegation headed by Secretary General Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri held talks with Hubert Gambs, Chief of Commissioner J. Hahn’s Cabinet and members of the Cabinet as well as with the DG REGIO at the EC Berlaymont building in Brussels in order to explore possible contributions of the CEI to the governance of existing and future EU Macro-regional Strategies.
