EU urges Bosnian leaders to cooperate and form a government

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 09 OTT - Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative, and Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, said in a joint statement that the formation of the new government in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the conduct of political parties are "an opportunity for political leaders to demonstrate, both to their citizens and to the EU, a renewed commitment and determination to take forward all the reforms needed to advance on the EU path". Elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina took place last Sunday. Now, Mogherini and Hahn urge political leaders to "assume their responsibilities". In the coming weeks, Brussels will introduce its opinion on the country's application for EU membership. "The effective implementation of the general elections will be taken into account" in the evaluation of Bosnian request, Mogherini and Hahn warned, noting that the elections were " genuinely competitive", but dominated by strong "ethnic" oppositions. "We expect all political leaders to engage in the formation of the governments at all levels, by working constructively together", they stressed.(ANSA).
