EU summit in Salzburg, borders temporarily closed

(ANSA) - UDINE, SEPT. 18 - At midnight yesterday, the Austrian Police temporarily reinstated controls at Italian border. The decision to temporarily suspend the Schengen Agreement and close the borders is part of the broader set of initiatives related to the semester of Austrian EU Presidency and, in particular, is based on the need to ensure the summit meeting between Heads of State and Government of the European Union to be held in Salzburg on September 20 has the highest security standards. The checks will continue until September 21 at midnight. During border operations, you will need to show your documents, otherwise you will be sent back to Italy.
