EU Commission backed visa liberalisation for Kosovo

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - European Commission backed today visa liberalisation for Kosovo citizens. During a joint press point with Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, EU Commissioner for Migration said that Pristina "met the benchmarks" requested by Brussels. Now the ball is in the court of the European Parliament and the European Council. "I call on the European Parliament and the Council to swiftly adopt our proposal on lifting visa requirements for Kosovo citizens", said Avramopoulos, stressing that the Commission has "done its part" and Pristina "great progress over the last two years to fulfill the two remaining visa liberalisation requirements". To guarantee the visa exemption, Pristina had to ratify the agreement on the border demarcation with Montenegro and strengthen the fight against corruption. The deal with Podgorica was signed on March, 21st. (ANSA).
